By late afternoon, the weather had slowly improved, the rain calming from stupidly heavy, to a constant haze of drizzle. Neither were especially enjoyable. Anemone was still mostly soaked through and her hair that had managed to dry quite a bit in the café was now wet, again. She was cold, and did not enjoy how her jeans were sticking to her legs when she walked. This was the problem with the cold seasons and with rain. The cold meant having to wear more layers and longer layers that covered skin. Rain would fall, soak through the layers and then they would just stick. In the warm months, it was so much easier. Less clothes, and if she got wet, no long trousers or jumpers to annoy her. Just short that dried quickly and bikini tops that did the same.
Of course there was rain in the summer, but it was always warmer, and easier to deal with. And it never lasted very long.
That had been in the afternoon though, now it was the evening, half seven according to the clock on her phone and the heavens had well and truly opened and really did show no signs of stopping now. It had been like this for almost forty-five minutes, with the occasional rumble of thunder and lightning flash joining in with the fray. Anemone was less than amused, but the prospect of seeing her boyfriend after not seeing him or hearing from him in about a week was keeping her going.
She was in Raiden’s apartment block having found the main door to the apartment block unlocked and open. The evelator up to the his apartment had given her a chance to examine her reflection, however distorted. She looked like a drowned rat, her hair was sticking to her face and back, and her clothes were dripping wet, and heavy.
“Great...” Anemone sighed. The elevator dinged arriving at her floor and she stepped out, walking the short distance to Raiden’s front door. She knocked a couple of times, shivering against her wet things.
Stupid rain.

Raiden moved about his kitchen with familiar ease despite having actually used it properly in months. Fenrir sat not too far from the side padding his tail against the floor expectantly. Raiden didn’t pay him much attention, too distracted with preparing the meal for himself and Anemone. He was just placing the steak onto the plates when he stopped to wonder if Anemone even liked steak. He’d been so consumed with thoughts of actually eating a proper meal and spending time with Anemone that he hadn’t even thought to check to see if steak was okay with her.
He grumbled at the knot that had formed in his stomach. He’d undoubtedly feel embarrassed if Anemone didn’t like steak. Especially since he’d actually gone out of his way. Raiden wasn’t used to making an effort for others and this was the first time he had cooked for Anemone.
The only reassuring thought he had was that Anemone probably didn’t know that he could cook. Which meant she wouldn’t have any high expectations. Unless Ella had somehow found out about their little meal and gone and blabbed her mouth that Raiden was indeed an excellent cook, (he thought he was okay). But he highly doubted that. This knowledge eased the knot in his stomach a little as he busied himself with taking out two glasses and two sets of cutlery.
Fenrir whined at Raiden for what to be the hundredth time, leaping onto his paws when he finally caught his masters attention. “Sorry Fen.” digging around in one of the lower cupboards, Raiden pulled out a large bag of dog biscuits. He poured some into a large silver dog bowl, mixing the biscuits with chunks of extra steak he’d especially cooked as a treat for Fenrir. Something he thought his dog deserved after freezing his fur off at the park today.
Fenrir circled two, three, four times, his tail wagging frantically. Raiden half grinned at his impatience and then placed the bowl in the corner of the kitchen. He’d barely placed the dish on the floor before Fenrir stuck his muzzle into it’s contents.
Knock, knock.
Raiden froze, unsure for a moment before he scowled and brushed a hand through his hair. He really needed to get a grip. It was Anemone, they had been dating long enough for him to be able to feel calm around her now, he shouldn’t be acting like this was their first date. Except it sort of was. He hadn’t cooked for her before. And that, he realised, was what was bugging him. He was actually worried that he’d disappoint her with his meal.
The Hanyou really wanted to slap himself. As much as he cared for Anemone, he really hated the jittery, nervous mess he sometimes became because of her. ‘Snap out of it.’
Taking a steady breath, Raiden straightened himself, headed to the door and opened it. “Anemone...” he blinked in surprise at the sight of his girlfriend who looked liked very much like she’d just taken a swim. She was soaked to the bone, dripping wet and shivering.
Only a second passed before Raiden took her hand and pulled her through the door, closing it quickly behind them.
“One second.”
Raiden disappeared and reappeared within the space of thirty-five seconds, a large towel in his hands. He unfolded it quickly and then wrapped it around Anemones shoulders.
Raiden felt guilty, he should've picked her up something, except he hadn't known the rain had turned from its drizzle back into a heavy downpour. His large hands rubbed her arms for a few moments even though she was fully dressed and then, with the towel still around her shoulders he used the edge to gently wipe at her face, brushing strands of wet hair away.
“You look..” he paused briefly and struggled for a moment, as his eyes took in her flushed cheeks, parted lips and bright pink eyes. “..beautiful” an awkward and somewhat innocent smile appeared across his face, which he promptly hid by placing a quick kiss to her lips.
It was hard breaking the kiss when he hadn’t kissed her in what I felt like a lifetime, but the thought that she was going to get ill if she didn’t get out of her drenched clothes and into something warm and dry, pressed on his mind.
“I’ll get you a fresh change of clothes.”
Raiden took two minutes this time before he returned to Anemone again, folded material in hand. “It’s not much…” he stated, holding out a dark blue t-shirt and a pair of the smallest shorts he owned, which would still swap her slim frame, but it was the best he had to offer. “You can change in my room.”

Anemone didn't have to wait long after knocking on Raiden's door. She could hear activity from inside, some crockery clattering on surfaces; but that was it. She sniffed, rubbing her damp sleeve across her face. She never normally sniffed if she was wet... at least not wet from sea water. Rain water was just different. To her at least. To everyone else water and water was all the same, whether it was from a river, the sea or the sky. But Anemone could sense the differences. The temperature differences, and the density of different kinds of water. She was more attuned to it, and the fact rain water was always so cold; that was why she didn't like it.
Raiden looked somewhat surprised when he opened the door. Like he had forgotten she was coming and only remembered on seeing her standing in the door way. He seemed to recover quickly, grabbing her hand and pulling her through the threshold and closing the door behind them. Anemone immediately relished the feeling of skin-on-skin. It had been too long and even the slightest bit of skin contact was enough to send her stomach into raging butterflies.
He disappeared for a short time, enough time for Anemone to see the apartment had a third occupant, Fenrir stuffing his face from the silver dog bowl. Raiden's cooking seemed in full swing, filling the apartment with tantalising smells, making Anemone's stomach grumble. She was hungry - the rain had been a distraction but now there was the prospect of food, her body reminded her painfully she was actually very hungry.
The Hanyou returned towel in hand and Anemone was exceptionally grateful when he wrapped it around her shoulders and rubbed her arms, though the liquid soaked into the fabric of her clothes only served to sodden the towel. Her cheeks heated and she could feel the blue markings on her body starting to glow, the view hindered by the full length trousers and jumper... Raiden's tenderness often surprised her, and now as he wiped her wet hair off her face with the edges of the towel, was no exception to that. She simply blushed more deeply and smiled, breaking this only to giggle.
"You must be looking at a different Anemone... I look anything but beautiful right now." She was still flattered; and quickly forgot any discomfort from her soaking clothes and damp hair and drowned rat appearance when Raiden kissed her. That sent her markings nucelar. It had been too long since this, just a kiss, not even an intense one and that was it; she felt happy and content in moments, bolder too, wrapping her arms around his waist.
It was a demure kiss, and over quicker than Anemone would have liked, but she was soaking, dripping on Raiden's floor. She let him move away from her, declaring he would find her some dry clothes. That sounded too good to be true, so she let him shoot off to his bedroom, and used the towel still around her shoulders to start roughly drying her hair. She was starting to feel better, more like herself now she was inside, in the warm and surrounded by familiar sounds and smells that to her were all she needed right now.
Raiden returned and handed her a pair of shorts and a t-shirt. "Okay, I'll be back in a minute."
Anemone crossed to his bedroom and closed the door with her foot, switching the light on. She stripped out of her wet clothes, dumping them in the corner, and quickly pulled on the clothes Raiden had given her. The shorts needed to be knotted at one side so they stayed up, and the t-shirt she tied in a knot at the back, half way up her torso. She felt more comfortable, though her hair was still wet, so she continued to dry it roughly with the towel until she heard scratching at Raiden's door and whining. Anemone opened the door quickly, letting Fenrir run in.
"Hey Fen~" she cooed, squatting to greet the exuberant husky who was immediately sniffing her face and hair. She rubbed her hands through his fur several times, making faces and rubbing his ears until he lost interest and ran back to the kitchen.
Closing the door as she left the room, Anemone examined the kitchen as she wandered over, where Raiden was cooking. "This is impressive... I didn't know you could cook." Anemone stated, leaning on the opposite side of the counter, watching as Raiden worked methodically. "You really didn't have to go to a lot of trouble." Anemone added, "I'd have been happy with toast - its just nice to actually see you."
Walking around the counter, Anemone stood next to Raiden watching him work, before moving behind him, slipping her arms around his waist and leaning her forehead against his back. "I missed you." Her voice was just a murmur, but she knew his ears would pick it up.

As Anemone disappeared into the bedroom, Raiden went about preparing the dinning table. Well.. He didn’t have an actual dinning table, never saw much point in buying one, which meant he had to improvise with what he did have; a glass coffee table.
The table was rectangular in shape and stood up far enough from the ground that a person could fit their legs beneath if they wanted. It wasn’t exactly conventional but it would do. He placed down two small plate mats at either end of the table and set a knife and fork besides each. It was a simple set up, very simple, but Raiden was hardly the type for candles and rose petals or whatever is people did when cooking for their partners.
For a second he wondered if Anemone expected candles and cheesy music. The unfamiliar feeling of dread that had begun to squirm it’s way into his stomach at that thought was immediately squished. Raiden shook his head. Anemone knew he didn’t do frilly and lovey-dovey. It just wasn’t him. At all. And if she did want it… well. He’d think about that if the time ever called for it. And he hoped it wasn’t any time soon because he didn’t have a clue where he’d even start with romantic settings and all that crap.
The sound of Anemone greeting Fenrir pulled the Hanyou from his dark and unsettling thoughts about romance and he returned to the kitchen. The meal was pretty much done. That was the great thing about cooking steak, it didn’t take long at all. Which suited him fine because he was absolutely starving. All that was left to do was to take the potato wedges from the oven and he reckoned they needed another minute or so.
When Anemone commented that she didn’t know he could cook Raiden shrugged his shoulders lightly, “It was no trouble.” It really wasn’t. Well, sure he’d gone a little bit out of his way for Anemone, he did care what she thought after all, despite how much he pretended like he didn’t. He wanted to impress her at least a little. Ugh. He was sure he was going to turn into a ball of mush one of these days.
Raiden had just finished adding the wedges to their plates when Anemone wrapped her arms around his waist, resting her head against his back. He remained still enjoying, for a private moment, Anemone holding him secure in her arms. Then he carefully turned so that her arms were still around his waist and used one hand to tuck away a wild strand of hair.
Anemone’s beauty always did amaze him. Her eyes and the shape of her lips and the glow of her creamy skin; he’d been captivated the moment he’d first properly laid his eyes on her. It was why he’d followed her onto the beach the first time they’d met, the day she’d taken him to her secret place. Sometimes he thought he wasn’t just her beauty but something else.. No he definitely knew there was something else.
Of course he liked her for her beauty and her persistent personality, they wouldn’t be here if she hadn’t been so annoyingly stubborn after all. But he sometimes felt like it was something deeper than those things that drew him to her. It wasn’t something he could explain or understand but he was almost positive that there definitely was a ’something’.
Raiden hadn’t realised he’d been staring intently into Anemone’s eyes, as if he could find that something there. He blinked quickly and bent his head so that his nose rested at the crook of her neck. Her scent, as always, overwhelmed his senses, calming and soothing him. And, as always, he found it hard to pull himself away. He brushed his lips across her skin, ending with a soft kiss at the edge of his shirt and then he lifted his head and pressed a kiss to her nose.
“I missed you too..” he admitted and then to silence the sudden ache that had risen in his lips, he caught her lips in a kiss. It began as the last one had, gentle and sweet but was quick to slip into something more heated and demanding.
Raiden had to admit that it felt beyond good to have his senses overwhelmed by Anemone. It felt good to give in to her. And how couldn’t he when her body felt the way it did in hands, pressed against him. Her scent and her touch and even the short breaths she took between kisses were enough to send him into a frenzy. Except that wasn’t supposed to happen. He couldn’t get carried away with Anemone, not yet. So when he felt the kiss and his stray thoughts began heading towards a place they couldn’t, he quickly pulled away.
“Dinner...” he mumbled as his hazed senses began to reach out farther than Anemone so that he could concentrate on something more than her breath tickling his lips. The scent of the ocean became mixed with that of hot steak and pepper causing him to blink and pull back his head.
“We should eat.” he stated, “Before it gets cold.”
Raiden allowed himself another quick kiss, though this one he placed on her head, he was sure he wouldn’t be able to pull himself away again if he kissed her lips. He really did not understand why he behaved like some kind of crack addict when it came down to being intimate with Anemone. To be honest it was a little nerve-wracking and it made him question whether it was to do with his dog-demon blood. Or maybe it was this elusive pull he felt from her? Or maybe it was just hormones. Hell, he didn’t know and thinking about it too much was going to give him a headache, which was the last thing he needed right now.

“It was no trouble.” Anemone had managed a small smirk to herself at that; of course it was no trouble. Nothing was ever any trouble as far as Raiden was concerned. He would move mountains and declare it was ‘no trouble’. Still, she didn’t doubt him... maybe cooking was a skill he kept secret; so this in fact hadn’t been much trouble for him. She appreciated it though.
She remained with her arms around his waist until Raiden had moved, now facing her. The food was cooling on the plates on the counter top; but they could wait for a short while. She managed to suppress a small giggle when he swept her hair away and relaxed against him. He was staring, something he tended to do; she never knew why, and Raiden didn’t disclose the reasons why he sometimes stopped functioning when they were together. It was just a quirk. He wasn’t totally out of it, his ears twitched and he breathed regularly.
There was no doubt about it, they were a funny pair. Raiden was gruff and irritable for the most part. He kept more to himself and wasn’t one to express himself. Anemone had found that odd at first, which was probably the reason her initial interest had started. The fact he was gruff, and brash. That he didn’t treat her like someone important, that he treated her, at first, like an annoyance. That had been a draw for her; a funny one, but a draw none-the-less. Had she known that that later... much later, after a lot of persistence on her part things would turn out this way... that she’d find herself at times blissfully happy, tucked away in his apartment together, away from the world?
Well, she’d probably upped the persistence a little.
As Raiden move dhis head, his nose coming to rest in the crook of her neck, Anemone shifted a little, lightly shifting his hair back with her fingers. She heard him inhale, the way he tended to do, something about her smell and closed her eyes, letting her senses absorb everything else, noise, smell, his skin against hers was a sensation she had missed, one she relished and enjoyed, more so when there was a feather-like touch, but still an unmistakable touch on her skin of his lips. Her stomach tilted at the sensation; though it was short lived, and replaced with a small laugh to the kiss placed on her nose.
He could be surprising some times, gentle and... though not shy, more tentative, like he was testing the waters before he kissed her properly. Which he did; starting as their earlier kiss had been, soft and sweet, then rising to be more demanding and heated. She molded to him, her body leaving no gaps, responding kiss for kiss, breathing when she could. Her cheeks flushed, and her skin felt hot to her. Her markings had brightened, and her fingers were grasping into his clothing to keep them as close together as possible. Raiden was pulling away too quickly, and while she pursued, he kept his thoughts together... it was good they both didn’t listen to their desires all the time.
“Right...” Anemone muttered, “I’d forgotten about that.” She nodded swiftly, pausing to the kiss planted on her forehead. She was able to release his clothes, though her knuckles now ached from where she hd been holding so tight. Backing away, she glanced at the low coffee table and the seat settings, smiling to herself. He didn’t entertain much, that much was clear.
“The table looks good.” She said, wanting to show she appreciated the effort. She quickly skimmed around Raiden and picked up the two plates from the counter, placing them at either end of the table when she reached it. She sat down at one end and waited for Raiden.
The food now closer, Anemone’s stomach made a low growling sound, urging her to just eat the food instead of wait. Anemone managed a small embarrassed laugh trying to ignore her stomach and the growling. Fenrir, the scent of food drawing him near, was sitting a few feet away, ready to grab any food that dropped onto the floor. Anemone was notorious for giving him treats, despite Raiden telling her not too.
“This is just what I wanted...” Anemone grinned, “you have no idea how hungry I am. I’ve barely eaten all day!”
